AEW&C is also known by the older terms "Airborne Early Warning" (AEW) and "Airborne Warning and Control System" (AWACS).
MINISTRY OF DEFENCE :
intends to spend US $1 billion (S$1.74 billion) on four Airborne Warning and Control System (Awacs). The aircrafts considered are the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye, the Boeing 737 AEW&C and the Brazilian Embraer. ( this is about 6 or 5 years ago)
Malaysian Defence Minister Najib Tun Razak(by that time) confirmed the purchasing plans , however he also added that there could be budget limitations, as the purchase of the aircraft will incur large expenses and thus required proper planning.
The estimated arrival of the aircraft would be by 2005 but an earlier purchase is a possibility if the aircraft can be acquired with long-term payments or barter trade.
The Awacs will ensure adequate defence surveillance because they will allow the military to identify and handle possible threats from a distance, something that Malaysia said it will need in the future and also On 8 December 2005, the Royal Malaysian Air Force ordered four A400M to replace its ageing fleet of C-130s.( military transport and tanker )
Harapan aku agar TUDM dapat memiliki keupayaan pemantauan yang canggih sebegini in the future!
111 Squadron "Jaeger" is the Republic of Singapore Air Force acquired four Grumman E-2C Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning aircraft in 1987 (more than 22 years establised) so,comparison tentang penggunaan teknologi sebegini kita agak ketinggalan dengan negara jiran.
